ENGINEERING OPPORTUNITY. VEHICLE STANDARDS DEPARTMENT – ROAD SAFETY AUTHORITY. The Road Safety Authority is tasked with improving safety on our roads in order to reduce death and injury resulting from road collisions. Vehicle Standards is a key function within the Strategy, Policy and Technology Directorate of the Road Safety Authority. Our purpose or mission is ‘the implementation of EU and National roadworthiness regulations and policy, along with provision of expert technical information on vehicle standards to reduce the number of sub-standard vehicles, accidents and fatalities on the roads in Ireland’. An opportunity exists within this busy Department, based in our Ballina office, for a permanent Engineer Grade II. The Road Safety Authority is seeking applications from individuals who are interested in pursuing a career with the RSA. It is required that those applying would have, at minimum, a level 8 degree in engineering (National Framework of Qualifications or equivalent professional qualification). A qualification in mechanical or automotive engineering would be desirable but not essential. This post will require excellent project management skills and an ability to work on one’s own initiative to lead and drive Vehicle Standards projects. Therefore, interested candidates will need to have a proven record of successfully delivering projects. This role will also require good analytical and problem-solving abilities and an aptitude to undertake decision-making in a robust and effective manner. The post will require the development and maintaining of a strong technical proficiency in vehicle standard related policies and regulations. The successful candidate will be required to represent RSA at European and international meetings and events and, as such, a considerable part of the role will involve active participation at this level.
